Update after Mayo: Surgery is the best option // more involved than we would have hoped // nothing we can’t handle

Details (if interested): They’ll have to remove the tumor & all involved lymph nodes, then they’ll cover the empty spot with skin & vessels from my wrist & use a skin graft from my thigh to cover that. After surgery I’ll probably have a tracheotomy + feeding tube for just a little while.

Details (if in a medical field ): Partial glossectomy for primary tumor, neck dissection of levels 1-4, a radial forearm free flap for recon of tongue to leave less of a defect to close primarily or heal by secondary intention which in turn will allow for best return of function, + skin graft to cover the forearm flap site. Strong likelihood for radiation afterwards pending final path.
